New Tear Off Roof Installation Near Ohio State University
A homeowner near The Ohio State University in Columbus recently contacted our team at Supreme Roofing & Exterior about an older roof that started leaking after several heavy rain storms we have had recent. Homes around this part of Columbus, including areas like Old North Columbus, Clintonville, and University District, often have roofs that are 20 years old or more. When shingles begin to fail, small leaks can quickly turn into bigger problems.
For this project, our team completed a full tear off roof installation. As you can see in the attached photos, the team removed the entire old roof before installing the new materials. A tear off means the old shingles and underlayment are completely removed down to the wood. This allows roofers to inspect the structure and build a new roofing system from the base up.

The process of tear off:
The first step during this roof installation was to removing the old shingles and roofing layers. Once the roof deck was exposed, we carefully checked the wood level to make sure there were no soft spots or rot. Catching these issues early helps prevent future leaks.
Then, we installed new protective layers including ABC Pro Guard synthetic underlayment and ProArmor ice and water shields. These products help protect homes in Columbus from moisture, wind driven rain, and winter ice dams. Ohio winters can be rough on roofs, so these layers add extra protection before the shingles go on.
After the waterproof protection was installed, we started installing the new architectural shingles. The photos show our team working across different roof slopes and valleys while securing the shingles properly. Correct nailing patterns, flashing installation, and ventilation all help extend the life of the roof.
Roof Repair or replacement?
Many homeowners ask if they need a full replacement or just a roof repair. Minor issues like a few missing shingles or flashing damage can sometimes be repaired. However, when shingles start curling, cracking, or failing across big areas, a full replacement often makes more sense.
Our team also provides roof damage repair for storm damage, wind damage, leaks, and damaged shingles. Strong storms move through Columbus and Franklin County several times each year, and they can loosen shingles or damage roof flashing around vents and chimneys.
If you are searching for licensed roofer in Columbus and need help with a roof repair or a full tear off roof installation, contact Supreme Roofing & Exterior today. Our local team is ready to inspect your roof for free and help protect your home for many years to come.
